Ned Roscoe wants governor’s seat to be his first public office

PALM DESERT -- Leave the grandstanding and promotional stunts for others, says Ned Roscoe.

The Northern California Libertarian claims he is running for governor of California because he fancies the opportunity -- and realizes it is a rare one.

"This situation is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," Roscoe said during a hastily planned campaign visit to the Coachella Valley on Monday afternoon. "And so here I am. This is no stunt."

Roscoe is on that lengthy list of 195 Californians who qualified to appear on the ballot for the Oct. 7 recall election of Gov. Gray Davis. On Monday, Roscoe, 42, of Napa made the desert one of his first stops.
