July 20, 2003FRONT PORCH SITTING: A PROPOSALSean Scallon offers an idea for a different kind of third party presdiential campaign, or campaigns. He has two main recommendations: one, that the LP draft Rep. Ron Paul and the Constitution Party draft Rep. Tom Tancredo, whether those two want to be drafted or not; and two, that they basically run "front porch campaigns", harkening back to the days of yore when that was the primary means of campaigning. I'm not altogether opposed to the idea of the front porch campaign -- I don't think it can carry the whole weight of a campaign, but it has some qualitites which recommend it to some extent. And I'm certainly not opposed to the idea of the LP drafting Ron Paul as its presidential candidate. Tom Tancredo, however...from what I've gathered, Tom Tancredo is hardcore anti-immigration. And I can't support that. I know -- Tom Tancredo can do a front porch campaign, but with a big wall around his property, and extensive vigilante patrols guarding his property from unwanted intrusion.
